Excuse me while I climb up on my soapbox.

I just had to comment on this article in the New York Times magazine about Facebook and blood donation.

I have real mixed feelings about this. While I would like to support blood donation, I can’t – I’m gay. I can’t contribute to this, because some policy maker decided that I was high risk without getting to know me. While there is a short period of time after initial HIV infection where it is not detectable, there is a lingering fear of the gay community after the epidemic spread like wild fire in the 80s and 90s.

Facebook I do not trust. Not at all. Their recent fiasco with beacon and other facts regarding the founding of the company lead me to suspect that their motives are less than noble.

Again it strikes me as odd that they would exclude an entire chunk of the population and then go and create an app to beg for donations.
