My Garden

Our property in Japan is larger than the property in Newmarket. the garden is quite extensive and is a variety of flowers, vegetables, wild plants and more.

We have several Sakura (Cherry blossoms) and Rhododendron, with beautiful pink flowers, as well as wild mountain flowers, the red and fuchsia.

We’ve planted several additional items. We have a vegetable garden, tomato, potato, eggplant, okra, and peppers. We also planted 20 French lavender which I am hoping will grow to fill up the spaces in between. We also planted several fruit trees. Two different types of persimmons, “Kaki” in Japanese, as well as “Mikan”, a Japanese orange.

There are also many existing fruit trees. There is Yuzu which is a Japanese citrus tree. I didn’t know this before but citrus tree have HUGE thorns. I found out when I tried to prune it. On the left are the kiwis. There must be over a dozen of them. I pruned them quite aggressively as they’d been going wild for over a year. I have no idea if I did it correctly but hopefully they will bear fruit.

There are also these wild plants, which have long thorny stocks. By long I mean, 6 feet long without any branches. I have never seen anything like them. They started growing and we cut off the new growths. We took the cuttings and made tempura with them. Delicious.
