Off Facebook Again

Many years ago I joined Facebook, but then the beacon scandal happened and I deleted my account. And then about twelve months ago, just before the Cambridge Analytica scandal happened I joined again. And just like before I deleted the account.

The first time I deleted it it was because Facebook posted information about users to their feeds without their permission. Essentially saying things like, “Dave just bought this book on Amazon!” While seems pretty innocuous except that it got a number of people into trouble. One was a fellow who purchased an engagement ring, guess who’s surprise is ruined?

When I joined back again I limited the amount of personal information I put on and for the most part used it to look at pictures of friends.

However with the latest nonsense involving Royal Bank, and the lack of any real action or penalty on the part of the Canadian and US governments; I decided it would be best if I just deleted my account.

Until we adopt a European stance on privacy I just don’t think the service is worth it. If anyone is interested in what I am up to, they can read about it here.
