Crash and a personal record

So I went to climb rattlesnake with the advanced ride group on Saturday lead by our intrepid leader Michael Cranwell.  This was supposed to be a “pre-apocalypse” ride.

It was a good ride to start.  My legs felt great I had a great time crossing the city with a top 10 time across College St. I set personal records on 6 other segments as well including the #5 time on Mississauga road which is no mean feat.  However, we went up rattlesnake which was a disaster for me. An average speed of 10.6 km/hr is sad to say the least, but I am not a climber.  What really sucked was on the corner onto Bell School line I dropped the bike on a corner in the gravel.

I immediately sprang to my feet, mostly out of embarassment, but promptly dropped again when the shock and pain kicked in.  I had scraped the skin off of some of my fingertips and had road rash on my right knee and elbow.  Where I really fucked myself is I tore something in my shoulder.  Possibly the rotator cuff. Not only do I have bruises on my side and back from the crash, but also on the front of my shoulder where something tore.

The good news is my arm still has the full range of motion, the bad news is that I can’t move it.  LOL! The muscles hurt too much if I try to move the shoulder but the elbow and hand are fine.

The group was very fast, and coming back (yes I rode 70km back home) was a bumpy painful ride, but you know what? Rule #5 HTFU!

Anyway I am hoping to get out again on Wednesday but I will need to be careful. I don’t imagine I can survive too many of these crashes!
